DIM BULB Who: Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C.
What: Discussing the Obama campaign’s attacks on Mitt Romney’s career at Bain Capital, Clyburn said on MSNBC that they are “not an attack on free enterprise.” He promptly followed up by comparing private equity to payday lending, probably a sign of his ignorance about both.
Why it’s dim: Clyburn finished with this doozy: “[T]here’s something about raping companies and leaving them in debt and setting up Swiss bank accounts and corporate businesses in the Grand Caymans. I have a real serious problem with that.”
Cure: Maybe Clyburn should actually learn something about markets before he starts calling people “rapists.”
