Washington Nationals and Wizards pay homage to cherry blossoms with new jerseys

With cherry blossoms out in full effect in Washington, D.C., two sports teams struck the opportunity to introduce new uniforms for their players.

The Washington Nationals’ and Washington Wizards’ new uniforms and jerseys were unveiled on Tuesday, making it the first uniform campaign joining the Major League Baseball and the National Basketball Association teams from the same market.

“Washington, D.C.’s cherry blossoms represent hope and new beginnings, making them the perfect symbol of this Nationals team,” said Mark D. Lerner, the managing principal owner for the Nationals. “We’re excited to unveil these beautiful uniforms as the embodiment of our historic organization’s hopeful future as we lead the District of Cherry Blossoms celebration with our friends at the Wizards.”

The Nationals’ new uniform, featuring an anthracite base color, cherry blossom print, and a pop of pink on the trims, will be worn by team members during the team’s opening day weekend on April 9 and April 10 against the New York Mets. It will also be worn during select games throughout the season.

Wizards team players will not be wearing their uniforms in the 2022-2023 NBA season, but they will wear them during warmups before their game against the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday. Pink serves as the new base color, and the jersey has silhouettes of cherry blossoms on its side, with a blossom dotting the “i” in Washington on the front.

The two teams will continue to collaborate with each other on other projects throughout the year, including participating in the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade on Saturday, April 9.
