For the second straight year T.C. Williams High’s boys basketball team welcomes back one of its former players from National Christian Academy (Md.).
Rising senior guard Ryan Burts has transferred back to T.C. Williams after playing for National Christian the last two years, according to Titans coach Ivan Thomas. The 6-foot-2 Burts last played for T.C. Williams as a freshman in 2003 when he was a reserve guard. He has helped the Titans to a combined record of 16-5 this summer in both the Sleepy Thompson League and the Kenner League. The presence of Burts should allow T.C. Williams rising 6-2 senior Glenn Andrews to play more often at small forward, according to Thomas. Burts averaged eight points per game last season for National Christian.
Looking for lacrosse coaches
Three Northern Region (Va.) boys high school lacrosse programs are seeking new head coaches.
Centreville High coach Larry Megale, who last season led the Wildcats to their best record in five years, stepped down for personal reasons, according to Centreville activities director Jimmy Sanabria. The Wildcats have not had a winning season since 2001, but doubled their win total from 2005 with a 6-7 record this year.
Falls Church High coach Lael Campbell has also resigned after two years for personal reasons. Campbell led the Jaguars to the first two winning seasons in program history, including a 7-6 mark this season. The Jaguars were 8-7 in 2005 and won their first Northern Region tournament game. Herndon is seeking a replacement for Jason Tapp, who stepped down after back-to-back 5-7 seasons with the Hornets.
Spurlock likely to Ireton
Woodbridge High rising sophomore basketball standout Tristan Spurlock is finalizing plans to enroll at Ireton this week.
The 6-foot-7 Spurlock has been playing with the Cardinals throughout the summer, according to new Ireton coach Mark Vincent, and should know by the end of the week if he’s been accepted into the school. Spurlock is considered one of the top 40 players in his class nationally by multiple recruiting services.
