Rep. Clay Higgins, a Louisiana Republican, challenged a Facebook critic to a fight on Friday in response to the man’s previous comments on social media.
After Higgins posted a critical news article about President Joe Biden’s handling of America’s withdrawal from Afghanistan, Joel Dolphin, reportedly a 34-year-old Alaskan state investigator, called Higgins a “sycophantic fool” and a “traitor.”
Higgins is “easy to find,” he told Dolphin. The congressman has a history of responding to disparaging remarks on social media.

“I’ll be in Alaska next year, with (Rep.) Don Young,” Higgins wrote after the Alaskan man said he’d be happy to reiterate his criticisms face to face. “Beautiful. I’ve enjoyed my time there. Like I said. I’m easy to find. Locate us a ring, or a dojo. I’ll give you a few rounds to make your point. Be seeing you. Higgins out.”
Dolphin was only “mildly surprised” at the congressman’s remarks, given he was “already aware of his very poor character,” he said.
“I accepted his challenge, but given his history of similar conduct, I’m not expecting anything to happen,” Dolphin said. “Challenging a citizen to a fight isn’t a good look for a U.S. congressman or for U.S. politics in general, for that matter. It’s just another reason for his constituents to be disappointed in him — add it to the pile. I hope a more moderate and honest Republican successfully primaries him.”
So last night @RepClayHiggins, a literal traitor and a sitting U.S. Congressman, had the audacity to challenge me to a fisticuffs in 2022. Could be a good way to raise money for charity? ?♂️?? @danawhite @NBCNews pic.twitter.com/q5IZqzOLJ5

Dolphin asked if the fight could be a way to raise money for charity on Twitter, calling Higgins a traitor again.
The latest Facebook exchange was not out of character for Higgins.

He called out a Vermilion Parish gang and asked them to meet “on solid ground, any time, anywhere.” In 2020, he told a group of armed protesters he would “drop any 10 of you where you stand.”
