President Bush celebrated his 60th birthday on Thursday by posing for photos with White House correspondents who share his birthday.
At the conclusion of an East Room press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Bush was told by reporter Raghubir Goyal of the India Globe that the reporter also was born on July 6.
“Today’s your birthday, too?” Bush asked.
“Yes, sir,” Goyal said.
“It is? Come on up,” said the president, inviting Goyal to join him on the riser. “Anybody else have their birthday today?”
White House Correspondent Richard Benedetto of USA Today tentatively raised his hand.
“Come on, get up here,” Bush said amid much laughter from the press corps.
Soon a Canadian reporter was on his feet and heading for the stage.
“Amazing, everybody’s birthday is today?” Bush marveled. “Another one, my goodness.”
Harper added: “If there starts to get any more, I’m going to start to question it.”
Reporters and White House staffers then sang “Happy Birthday” to the group as Harper looked on with a smile.
Bush ended the festivities by pointing to the white-haired Benedetto, who turned 65, and joking: “He just told me he’s 30 years old. Isn’t that something?”
