Major social media websites and apps were sputtering Sunday afternoon in parts of the United States amid problems with the Google cloud service they rely on.
Users were reporting issues with Gmail, Snapchat, Discord, Nest, YouTube, and a number of other web-based services Sunday afternoon.
The Google Cloud status dashboard indicated that the issue was ongoing but suggested that the problem causing the outages had been identified.
“We are experiencing high levels of network congestion in the eastern USA, affecting multiple service in Google Cloud, GSuite and YouTube. Users may see slow performance or intermittent errors. We believe we have identified the root cause of the congestion and expect to a return to normal service shortly,” the incident description read.
Most of the problems were on the East Coast of the United States.
Some of the services took to Twitter to let users know that the issue is being dealt with.
