Accused Holocaust shooter to appear in court

James Von Brunn, who allegedly shot and killed a guard at the U.S. Holocaust museum in June, is set to appear in U.S. District Court Nov. 30 for a status conference.

Von Brunn served six and a half years in prison during the 1980s. On Dec. 7, 1981, he brandished a sawed-off shotgun at the headquarters of the Federal Reserve Board. Von Brunn threatened to take members of the board hostage and claimed to have planted a bomb.



Police nab suspect in Rock Creek

D.C. police apprehended a suspect who, after being observed breaking into a vehicle, fled and jumped into Rock Creek in the area of the Thompson Boat Center.

The adult male suspect was pulled from the water at about 11:45 a.m. Fri., Nov. 27. He was then transported to an area hospital.

He was observed earlier breaking into a vehicle in the 1200 block of 24th Street, NW, and could face additional charges in the case.



District police, FBI seek bank robber

D.C. Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are seeking to identify the suspect believed to be responsible for the robbery of a Chevy Chase bank last week.

The incident occurred at about 11:40 a.m. on Nov. 23 at the branch in the 300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, SE.

The suspect in this case is described as a black male, believed to be in his late 50’s to early 60’s. He is further described as having a dark complexion, a thin build and wearing wire framed glasses. The suspect was reportedly last observed carrying a black bag and wearing clothing described as a black skullcap, a black three-quarter length coat and black gloves.

Pedestrian safety initiative nets nearly 1,000 citations

Prince William County Police issued 950 citations to motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists during its latest “Street Smart” campaign the week of Nov. 14-21.

The enforcement was conducted throughout the county, with emphasis on the Route 1 corridor, Dale Boulevard and Sudley Road.

During the initiative, 319 citations were issued to motorists for speeding — the largest single category — 82 for operators’ license violations, and 60 for reckless driving.
