D.C. policeman shoots dog in Foxhall Crescent

A D.C. police officer shot a dog while taking an accident report in the wealthy Northwest Washington neighborhood of Foxhall Crescent. The incident happened shortly after noon Tuesday. Police said the officer was working an accident involving a trash truck and a car when the dog showed up. The dog acted aggressively and the officer shot it, police said. The dog was taken to an animal hospital, and police said they did not know whether it survived.

19th homicide in P.G.

A Suitland man was shot and killed in Oxon Hill, in the 19th homicide in Prince George’s County this year. Prince George’s has had three killing in three days, ending a nearly two-week respite from deadly violence. At this time last year, the county had seven slayings.

Around 11:30 p.m. Monday, police responded to a call for an unresponsive male on the 900 block of Kennebec Street and found 27-year-old Darian Hinton suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his upper body. Hinton was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Of the 19 homicides this year, 18 were determined to be criminal and one was justifiable, police said.

By comparison, D.C., which has about 25 percent fewer residents, has had 10 homicides this year, according to the Metropolitan Police Department Web site.

Doctor gets prison

for not paying taxes

A Fairfax County doctor who owned a drug rehabilitation center in the District was sentenced to four months in prison for failing to file income taxes. Prosecutors said Charles H. Clark Jr., of Fairfax Station, owned the CMAC drug addiction center, but did not report income earned for four years from 1996 to 2001. Prosecutors said he owed more than a half-million dollars to the government.
