University of Oregon football player dies after hitting his head near Triangle Lake

A tight end for the University of Oregon football team died on Wednesday after falling and hitting his head.

Spencer Webb, 22, was near Triangle Lake, a popular recreational area in Lane County, where the university is located, when he fell and hit his head, according to the sheriff’s department. Officers responded to a call about a man who fell and hit his head around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, according to KEZI.

Paramedics helped pull Webb onto the roadway after he slipped roughly 100 yards down a trail. Responders tried to revive him at the scene, but he was unresponsive.

Webb had played a minor role on the Ducks’ football team but was expected to step into a starting role in 2022. The tight end caught 18 passes in 2019 and 13 passes in 2021.

Although his role in the program was minimal, Webb was a highly touted recruit and was the No. 1-ranked tight end in the state of California coming out of high school.
