FBI: ‘Possibility’ San Bernardino was terrorist attack

An FBI official told reporters at a press conference Wednesday night there is a ‘possibility’ that shootings in San Bernardino, Calif., that left 14 people dead and injured 17 others earlier in the day was a planned attack by terrorists.

“It is a possibility, but we don’t know that yet. And we’re not willing to go down that road yet,” said David Bowditch, assistant director in charge of the FBI L.A., to the press.

The San Bernardino police chief agreed with Bowditch’s assessment.

“They came prepared to do what they did as if they were on a mission,” said San Bernardino police chief Jarrod Burguan.

Following the shooting, police received a tip that led them to a residence where the suspects might be holding out. Police then followed a dark-colored SUV and engaged in a shoot-out with individuals in the car. A man and a woman were killed, and officials later apprehended the third suspect.

There is no information about the motive behind the suspects’ actions or whether they acted on behalf of a terrorist group.
