Florida Sen. Marco Rubio’s presidential campaign pushed back against criticism from White House spokesman Josh Earnest on Friday.
In response to a question from a reporter during a White House press conference, Earnest needled Rubio.
“My guess is he gets most of his information about what’s happening in Congress in the newspaper based on his attendance record,” Earnest said.
Rubio’s campaign responded by noting that Rubio missed fewer votes thus far in the U.S. Senate than President Obama did during his only term in Congress en route to the White House. The Rubio campaign issued a statement deriding Earnest for not answering a reporter’s question.
“Try as they might, the Obama White House can’t dodge the very real questions and concerns about this weak president’s national security record,” said Alex Conant, Rubio spokesman, in a statement. “Instead of explaining how a U.S. missile ended up in the hands of a Cuban dictatorship, the administration decided to make up facts and engage in reckless political attacks — the only thing it has proven to be good at over the last seven years.”
Rubio is on the campaign trail in New Hampshire on Friday, where he is stumping alongside Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz. Rubio ranks third in the Washington Examiner‘s newest GOP presidential power rankings.
