Satanists convince Pennsylvania school district to alter dress code

Satanists in Pennsylvania feel sin-gled out.

Joseph Rose, the founder of local satanic congregation Satanic Delco, convinced the Rose Tree Media School District its dress code was discriminatory in banning clothing or gear that is “satanic in nature.” The district announced the change in dress policy Thursday, noting, “Although we have had no complaints or concerns brought forward by any student, parent, or resident, we will remove this language from our current dress code information in the student handbook.”

“The idea that a public school would allow religious expression in school but choose to single out and prohibit the expression of one specific religion obviously seemed like a problem for us,” Rose told WPVI.

Rose said he intends to continue fighting schools over dress code decisions that ban satanic content.

“It just sort of raises awareness for what Satanists are, what we’re not, and maybe helps empower us a little when we have to reach out to the next high school, which I’m doing,” he said.

Satanic Delco has previously spearheaded local philanthropic efforts, such as a September 2020 “To Hell with Homelessness” campaign. The group states on its website it does not “promote a belief in a personal Satan” but uses the name as a way to “embrace rational inquiry removed from supernaturalism and archaic tradition-based superstitions.”

Satanic Delco is not affiliated with the Satanic Temple, an advocacy group in Salem, Massachusetts, that regularly makes news through political activism. However, the two entities do subscribe to similar tenets.

The change in dress code is the latest in a series of nationwide conflicts surrounding schools. In California, a school board president cursed at a parent for expressing concerns over COVID-19 protocols. Loudoun County, ground zero for the clashes, has seen fiery school board meetings over its school district’s transgender policy after an unidentified male student wearing a skirt was found guilty of sexually assaulting a female student on school property.

Representatives from Rose Tree Media School District did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Washington Examiner.
