Hillary Clinton would like to see same-sex couples marry legally around the country.
According to Adrienne Elrod, spokesperson for Hillary for America, the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee frontrunner supports a Supreme Court ruling that would grant the right of same-sex couples to marry nationally.
“Hillary Clinton supports marriage equality and hopes the Supreme Court will come down on the side of same-sex couples being guaranteed that constitutional right,” Elrod said in a statement to the Washington Blade, a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender weekly newspaper headquartered in Washington, D.C.
Clinton used a same-sex couple from Chicago in the video released Sunday announcing her presidential campaign.
She was also outspoken about a religious freedom law signed last month in by Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, which many critics said was a way to legally allow businesses to deny services to same-sex couples. She tweeted, “Sad this new Indiana law can happen in America today. We shouldn’t discriminate against ppl bc of who they love #LGBT”.

If Clinton’s position holds true, it will be a shift from last summer, when she told NPR’s Terry Gross, “marriage has always been a matter left to the states.”
The Supreme Court is set to hear same-sex marriage cases April 28, which could pave the way for legalization nationally.
