Donald Trump expanded on his new term limits proposal, saying he would limit senators to twelve years in office and House members to six.
Trump made the revelation during a campaign rally Tuesday evening in Grand Junction, Colo., two hours after initially making the announcement during a campaign event in Colorado Springs.
“There’s another major announcement I am making today as part of our pledge to drain the swamp. If I’m elected president, I will push for a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on all members of Congress,” Trump said to cheers from supporters.
“I am proposing a term limit of six years for members of the House, and 12 years for members of the Senate,” Trump said. “Decades of political failure and special interest collusion must and will finally come to an end. It’s time to sweep the corruption out of Washington.”
Trump went on to also call for a ban on White House and congressional staffers doing fundraising during work hours.
During a rally Monday night in Wisconsin, Trump proposed a series of ethics reforms, calling for a five-year ban on lobbying by members of Congress, their staffs, and executive branch members, as well as a lifetime ban on senior executive branch officials lobbying on behalf of a foreign government.
