Apparently, the federal government is weed shopping. Or, more accurately, weed farm shopping.
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) — a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) specializing in drug abuse and addiction research — wants “to solicit proposals from offerors having the capability to … cultivate and harvest, process, analyze, store, and distribute cannabis,” according to a posting published Tuesday on the federal government’s website.
In other words, the NIH branch needs a pot farm to help out with its research.
According to Time, spokesperson Shirley Simson explained that NIDA is looking to draw up a new marijuana farm contract in preparation for the expiration of its current contract in 2015.
The “presolicitation” explains that individuals will be considered if they have “a secure and video monitored outdoor facility of approximately 12 acres for growing and processing cannabis” in addition to “an indoor growing facility for the purpose of growing, propagating, and sustaining cannabis plants under controlled conditions” that meets size, temperature and other requirements.
Perhaps Choom Gang member President Obama — or, even better, his pal Snoop Dogg — has some recommendations for potential pot farming contenders.
