Environmental education would be required for Maryland high school students under a proposal before the state school board Tuesday. Assistant State Superintendent of Education Mary Gable said school systems in each county would decide how to teach the material and students would not have to pass an additional test to graduate. If the proposal is approved, environmental education would begin for incoming ninth grade students next September.
Gable said the department received 187 comments during the public comment period, with 180 supporting the proposal. – AP
