Yesterday, the Hollywood Reporter broke news that President Obama held a “secret meet-and-greet” with Hollywood executives and influencers.
The event was reportedly “not a fundraiser,” and attendees “were not asked to donate to the Obama reelection campaign,” but all of the guests listed at the meeting were Democratic donors, of whom only three had so far donated money to Obama for his re-election campaign according to the latest fundraising reports.
Chris Silbermann, president of the A-list talent agency ICM, donated $2,300 to Obama and $28,500 to the DNC’s Obama victory fund for his 2008 campaign, but has not donated to Obama’s reelection campaign.
Atlantic Records chairman Craig Kallman also donated $2300 for Obama in 2008 and $10,000 to the Obama victory fund, but hadn’t opened his wallet yet.
Actor Kal Penn (Kalpen Modi) formerly worked for Obama in the White House Office of Public Liaison, but has yet to contribute to the president’s re-election campaign.
A notable exception was Miramax producer Harvey Weinstein, who supported Hillary Clinton in 2008, but has already donated $5,000 to Obama.
Eight of the invited guests named in the report were former Obama donors, of whom only two had already donated to the re-election campaign as of September 30.
The president raised money in Hollywood last month, but returned this week for additional fundraisers with actors Will Smith, Eva Longoria, and Antonio Banderas.
Financial reports for the October fundraisers won’t appear in the FEC records until the end of the fourth financial quarter.
