New Preakness Stakes app launching today

In another effort to make horse racing hip and cool again, the Preakess Stakes is introducing a iPhone application that allows fans to get real-time access to the latest Preakness Stakes updates, including news releases, historical data, blogs and wagering information.

“Social media has changed the landscape of how we communicate,” said Maryland Jockey Club president Tom Chuckas, who added the app isn’t just for the state’s most popular horse race but will be available year-round.

The app will  provide facts and figures on the daily races during Pimlico Race Course’s spring meeting, including handicapper Frank Carulli’s morning line and pre-race program notes as well as scratches, results with payouts and video replays.

The app will be available on Android and BlackBerry later this week, according to the jockey club.

The $1 million Preakness Stakes, the middle jewel of the Triple Crown, is scheduled for Saturday, May 21 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.
