Attorneys for the defense and prosecution say the Anthony Feritta murder case is among the strangest they?ve seem.
It started in February, when police found Fertitta?s body engulfed in flames on the side of Old Mill Road. Soon after, Fertitta?s live-in girlfriend, Cynthia McKay, and her son, Matthew Haarhoff, were charged in connection with his murder. And on Tuesday, prosecutors announced that McKay? older son Christopher Haarhoff, 20, is also being charged.
When police searched McKay?s Millersville home, just minutes away from where the body was found, they found an area carpet with a “heavy odor of bleach.” They removed the carpet to find a large bloodstain.
Matthew Haarhoff, 18, later confessed he was involved in Feritta?s stabbing and shooting death and was charged with first-degree murder. McKay was charged as an accessory after the fact.
Her other son, Christopher Haarhoff, was indicted Sept. 15 on the murder charge, as well as one count each of use of handgun in the commission of a violent crime and use of a handgun in a felony. He is currently incarcerated at the Maryland Correctional Training Center in Hagerstown on an unrelated charge.
McKay, 49, has an extensive criminal history, including multiple charges of theft. The most recent charge came in March, when she was charged with stealing from her former employer, Cheryl?s Chalet?s in Glen Burnie.
Christopher Haarhoff has also racked up multiple criminal charges in the past, including burglary, assault, malicious destruction of property and resisting arrest, according to court records.
McKay is currently being held at the Maryland Correctional Institute for Women, and Matthew Haarhooff is at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center.
