Oscars will go hostless for second year in a row

The Academy Awards announced the annual Oscars ceremony will not have a host for the second year in a row. The academy broke the news on social media Wednesday afternoon. The 92nd Academy Awards will take place on Feb. 9.

Comedian Kevin Hart was supposed to host the Oscars last year but dropped out after homophobic tweets resurfaced. “I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscar’s….this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists,” Hart tweeted at the time. “I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.”

“The host on the show is a great thing, but where we are right now, I think this is a good thing because the show is going to move,” Oscars producer Glenn Weiss said last year. “It’s going to be fun to watch, and we get to honor all these folks in these 24 categories.”
