A gun reported missing by a D.C. police lieutenant has been connected to several attempted murders, including shootings where people were wounded.
“We have connected it to a couple of shootings and I believe, a robbery — a couple of them were assault with attempt to kill,” D.C. Police Chief Charles Ramsey said.
D.C. police found the gun last month during the investigation of two men who had escaped from the jail. The gun was reported missing in January by Lt. Teresa Brown, a watch commander in the 4th District.
D.C. police opened an investigation to find out how the police lieutenant’s Glock 17 wound up on the couch of a home on the 200 block of W Street NW and how it was linked to the D.C. jail escape.
“Maybe it wasn’t stolen. We just need to look into it. We may never know,” Ramsey said.
Brown was not involved in the shootings or the jail escape, but she was suspended for 30 days, Ramsey said. The reason for the suspension was unclear.
Brown filed her own police report in January after returning from vacation. She said that someone stole her Glock 17 from her private office in the second floor of the district station, according to police reports.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested at the home where the gun was recovered, Ramsey said.
