Government remains top U.S. problem

For the fourth straight month, Americans find government to be the top problem facing the nation.

Eighteen percent of Americans list the government as the top U.S. problem — a distinction it has held for the past four months. The economy, at 11 percent, still remains an issue, followed by jobs at 10 percent, according to a new Gallup poll.

Healthcare — the third most important problem in February 2014 with 10 percent — dropped down to 7 percent this year. Immigration was the only problem that has increased over the same time, from 6 percent to 7 percent.

Terrorism (6 percent), the situation in Iraq/the Islamic State (4 percent) and national security (4 percent) remain top problems on Americans’ minds as well.

Though satisfaction with the way things are going in the country in 2015 remains relatively stable at 31 percent — after reaching 33 percent in fall 2012, it dropped in 2013 and 2014 — roughly two-thirds of Americans continue to be dissatisfied, the poll found.

The telephone-based poll of 1,025 adults was conducted randomly from March 5-8, with a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.
