Plea expected in crash that injured soccer star

The driver in a 2009 Northern Virginia car crash that injured soccer star Charlie Davies and killed a female passenger is scheduled to plead guilty Tuesday.

A plea agreement hearing for Maria A. Espinoza, of Clarksville, Md., is scheduled to take place in federal court in Alexandria.

She was driving on the George Washington Parkway when the October 2009 crash happened. Davies, a forward on the U.S. national team, suffered broken bones in his leg, elbow and face and lacerated his bladder. Ashley J. Roberta, a 22-year-old from Phoenix, Md., was killed.

Espinoza was charged with involuntary manslaughter and drunken driving.

Davies missed the World Cup because of his injuries.
