The Cherry Blossom Festival will help raise awareness and funds to aid Japan’s rebuilding project in the wake of a massive earthquake and tsunami, festival president Diana Mayhew said Wednesday morning.
The blossoms that bloom every spring in the District were a gift from Japan.
“The festival is a natural conduit to getting the message out to hundreds of thousands of people,” Mayhew said. She added, “it’s a better time than ever to celebrate the relationship between the U.S. and Japan.”
In addition to opportunities to help Japan’s recovery efforts at the festival, which runs from March 26 through April 10, those interested in reaching out will soon be able to do so through the festival’s website.
