Rush was wrong, but outrage is one-sided

Re: “Dan Rather: Limbaugh might cost GOP the election,” March 5

I absolutely deplore Rush Limbaugh’s remarks about the young woman testifying in Congress about President Obama’s contraceptive policies.

But I am compelled to ask: If this young woman had testified against Obama’s contraceptive policies and was insulted in a similar manner by a liberal commentator on the national networks, would Obama still have called her personally to support her?

Ford workers forced to subsidize the competition

Why hasnobody in the mediapointed out that Ford autoworkers, who did not receive anybailout money, are contributing, by way of their taxes, to the bailout of General Motors?

With tax subsidies for cars like the Chevy Volt, GM’s massive advertising campaign, and taxpayer-paid refunds, they are thus forced to finance their own competition.

Is that fair?

Algae energy just another government boondoggle

At the University of Miami last week, President Obama said,” Wecould replace up to 17 percent of the oil we import for transportation with this fuel that we can grow right here in the United States.”

However, the Institute for Energy Research said that each gallon of algae-created fuel would require 350 gallons of water, according to a recent study, and would have to be planted on an area of land roughly equal to South Carolina.

Obviously, building the required infrastructure would take years. How many future taxpayer dollars would Obama waste on this boondoggle?

Remember the synthetic fuels tax credit of yore? Qualifying crony capitalists feeding at Washington’s trough sprayed coal with diesel fuel to earn the synthetic-fuel moniker and steal the tax haven. Then they passed the tax shelter on to another concern.

Is this progress?
