Sen. Mary Landrieu is the heavy underdog in tomorrow’s runoff for the last undecided U.S. Senate seat. She trails Republican Rep. Bill Cassidy by double digits in every poll.
But when it comes to raising money from the sector of the economy she has long helped regulate and subsidize — energy —Landrieu is in the lead. This is from Politico’s Morning Energy:
Since Election Day political handicappers have said Senate Energy and Natural Resources Chairwoman Mary Landrieu has little chance of winning in tomorrow’s runoff election — but that’s not stopping energy PACs from giving heavily to her in the past month. Since Nov. 4, Landrieu brought in a total of $79,500 from energy PACs, according to FEC records. Her contributor PACs include TransCanada, BP, ConocoPhillips, Chevron, Cheniere, Entergy, PG&E, AEP, Exelon, Pinnacle West Capital, Spectra Energy, AGL Resources, the American Gas Association, the American Petroleum Institute, the Edison Electric Institute, the Nuclear Energy Institute, the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America, Sempra. …
Landrieu’s GOP challenger — and the expected winner — Rep. Bill Cassidy, did pretty well himself. Since the election, he raised $70,000 from energy PACs, according to FEC filings.
