Washingtonians have a lot of say about Metro. Now they have a chance to channel those comments back to the agency.
Metro’s Riders’ Advisory Council is looking to fill six open positions. The council needs two regular Metro riders each from D.C. and Prince George’s County plus one from Arlington County. One at-large position is also open for a rider from anywhere that Metro serves.
Metro’s users didn’t always have such a voice. The 21-member volunteer council was formed in 2005 after a push by riders concerned about the agency’s unresponsiveness to its customers. It now gives Metro’s board of directors input on all forms of the agency’s service. The group typically meets once a month on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
But the deadline for applicants is approaching. All applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
Those interested in serving can complete an online form. Or they can pick up an application at the Metro sales offices at Metro Center, Anacostia, the Pentagon Transit Center or Metro headquarters on 600 Fifth Street, NW, near the Judiciary Square or Gallery Place stops.
