New exhibit, new vantage point of inauguration

A group of presidential inauguration photographers are showing off pictures from a viewpoint only they were lucky enough to have, bringing together their best shots from Jan. 20 for a new exhibit, “I Do Solemnly Swear,” at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.

Among their best:

»A photo taken from behind Barack Obama as he emerges from the Capitol to take the oath includes his daughter Malia snapping pictures of her own.

»An aerial shot of the first family during the swearing-in ceremony, which shows Malia’s sister, Sasha, standing on a box.

»The first couple in a freight elevator, forehead to forehead, as they leave the Washington Convention Center after a long night of inaugural balls.

»And a behind-the-scenes shot showing the trucks packed with photographers that traveled alongside the first couple on the parade route, “dancing” the cars around the president to offer them different vantage points.
