U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement recently deported a former Colombian director of intelligence who was wanted in the aggravated psychological torture of a journalist, unlawful wiretapping and other crimes, according to a Monday press release from the agency’s Enforcement and Removal Operations arm.
Enrique Ariza Rivas, 49, was a member of the now-dissolved Administrative Department of Security in Colombia.
“As this removal makes clear, ICE is working closely with its foreign counterparts to promote public safety and hold criminals accountable,” Marc J. Moore, field office director for the Miami Field Office of ERO, said in a statement.
ICE brought in the Human Rights Violators and War Crimes Center to assist in finding and removing Ariza Rivas due to the seriousness of the incident.
Ariza Rivas is one of 380 people arrested and 785 who were deported for human rights-related violations since 2003.
