Trump issues statement on Tiger Woods after legendary golfer hospitalized in major car crash

Former President Donald Trump issued a brief statement in support of PGA Tour legend Tiger Woods after the golfer was hospitalized in a serious single-vehicle accident.

“Get well soon, Tiger. You are a true champion!” Trump said through adviser Jason Miller on Twitter.

Woods was hospitalized on Tuesday after a single-vehicle rollover crash near Rolling Hills Estates in California.

“On Feb. 23, 2021, at approximately 7:12 AM, LASD responded to a single-vehicle roll-over traffic collision on the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes,” the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement posted on Twitter, adding that the vehicle “sustained major damage.”

Police identified the driver as Woods, noting that he was the only occupant of the vehicle during the crash.

In a statement, Woods’s manager Mark Steinberg said the golfer suffered injuries to his legs.

“Tiger Woods was in a single-car accident this morning in California, where he suffered multiple leg injuries,” Steinberg said. “He is currently in surgery, and we thank you for your privacy and support.”

Trump, an avid golfer, awarded Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom after Woods completed an improbable comeback to golf that culminated in him winning the 2019 Masters Tournament.

“Spoke to @TigerWoods to congratulate him on the great victory he had in yesterday’s @TheMasters, & to inform him that because of his incredible Success & Comeback in Sports (Golf) and, more importantly, LIFE, I will be presenting him with the PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM,” Trump said at the time.
