Manhattan grand jury returns criminal indictments against Trump Organization and CFO

A Manhattan grand jury reportedly filed criminal indictments against both the Trump Organization and its chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg.

The indictments will remain sealed until Thursday afternoon, leaving the exact charges unknown, according to the Washington Post. The report cited sources who said the charges relate to unpaid taxes on perks provided to executives with former President Donald Trump’s business.

Criminal offenses could be related to cars, private school tuition, the use of apartments, and other gifts given to top brass without following proper tax protocols, the Wall Street Journal reported earlier in the day.

Defendants in the case are expected to appear before a judge on Thursday.

The Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance and New York Attorney General Letitia James have been conducting investigations into the financial affairs of the Trump Organization.

TRUMP ORGANIZATION AND FINANCE CHIEF EXPECTED TO FACE CHARGES THURSDAY: REPORT

Jeffrey McConney, longtime controller of the Trump Organization, became the first employee to testify before a grand jury after he was issued a subpoena, ABC News reported in early June.

Lawyers for the Trump Organization met virtually with Manhattan prosecutors last week. Ronald Fischetti, a lawyer for the company, downplayed the case and said Trump would not face charges in the first indictment.

“The corporate office will plead not guilty, and we will make an immediate motion to dismiss the case against the corporation,” he told NBC News.

Jason Miller, a former spokesman to Trump, slammed the investigation and insisted authorities are “persecuting” an 80-year-old man, likely referring to Weisselberg.

“This is politically terrible for the Democrats,” he wrote in a Thursday tweet. “They told their crazies and their supplicants in the mainstream media this was about President Trump. Instead, their Witch Hunt is persecuting an innocent 80 year-old man for maybe taking free parking!”

Trump has repeatedly referred to the investigation as a continuation of the “witch hunt” he has spoken of since the Russia investigation.

“This is purely political, and an affront to the almost 75 million voters who supported me in the Presidential Election, and it’s being driven by highly partisan Democrat prosecutors,” Trump said in one statement.

Neither the Trump Organization nor a spokesperson for the former president immediately responded to a request for comment from the Washington Examiner.
