Unemployment rates fell in the District, Maryland, and Virginia last month, according to data released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
D.C.’s unemployment rate was 10.4 percent, down from 11 percent in April. Maryland’s dropped to 7.2 percent from 7.5 percent, and Virginia’s rate ticked down to 7.1 percent from 7.2 percent.
Nonfarm payrolls climbed 20,300 in Virginia from April to May — one of the biggest month-over-month increases in the country.
Nationally, the unemployment rate was 9.7 percent in May, down from 9.9 percent in April.
