LOS ANGELES (AP) — A former Bell city councilwoman has been given two years in state prison and ordered to pay $242,000 in restitution for misappropriating public funds.
Teresa Jacobo is the fourth person sentenced in a corruption scandal that left the blue-collar Los Angeles suburb teetering on the edge of financial ruin.
Prosecutors say former officials took vastly inflated salaries.
City News Service says during her sentencing Friday, Jacobo apologized for what she called her negligence.
Former City Administrator Robert Rizzo and Assistant City Administrator Angela Spaccia previously were sentenced to around 12 years each in prison and ordered to pay millions in restitution.
Two ex-councilmen got a year in county jail and 180 days of home confinement, respectively.
Another ex-councilman and a former mayor await sentencing next week.
