The St. Louis man who drew a gun on protesters who were walking through his gated community says he and his wife have been smeared by the press and activists but will fight the “intimidation campaign” against them.
“They want to indict me,” said Mark McCloskey Tuesday on Fox News’s Hannity. “The press has maligned me. And they are trying to socially intimidate us, but we did nothing wrong, and we are not going to be intimidated. We are not subject to intimidation, and we won’t back down.”
McCloskey and his wife, Patricia, went viral after photos and video showed the couple drawing guns on protesters who were marching to demand the resignation of St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson. The McCloskeys are currently being investigated by St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kimberly Gardner, a Democrat who said she was “alarmed” by the incident.
The couple transferred one of their weapons over on Friday to local authorities and believe they will be indicted. No charges have yet been filed against them.
McCloskey has argued that he did nothing wrong and that he and his wife pulled out weapons in self-defense. The couple have claimed protesters were threatening to kill them and take over their home, leaving them with no choice but to brandish weapons. McCloskey said on Tuesday he will continue to fight what he believes are false narratives about the incident.
“I can tell you this: It has been an intimidation campaign, and we are going to fight it,” he said.
The McCloskeys have the support of Missouri Gov. Mike Parson as well as President Trump, who called the way the couple has been treated a “disgrace.” Trump has also alluded that he may step in and act on the case to help them if needed.
