When he got back to the bedroom he saw Cunagin, his daughter’s fiance, had his pants down in front of the crib of the 5-year-old, whose pants had also been taken down, according to court documents.
The grandfather immediately jumped into action. He punched Cunagin and called the Middletown Police Department.
Responding officers arrested Cunagin, who told a woman in the apartment that he had “blacked out,” according to an affidavit.
Cunagin told police he felt “numb” during the incident, saying, “It was just going through my head if [I] should really do it or not.”
The girl said similar incidents have taken place at least five times, according to the report.
Cunagin denied the allegations against him. He faces charges of rape of a child, indecent assault, unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of minors, and indecent exposure.
