Chicago activists complain ‘Hillary stands with Rahm’

As Democrats head to the polls in Iowa a group of activists are flying banners across the city skyline protesting the former secretary of state’s close ties to Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

Sixteen banners read “Chicago stands with Laquan, Hillary stands with Rahm #ByeAnite #ByeRahm” flew over the city to symbolize the 16 shots Chicago police officers fired killing Laquan McDonald.

Protestors criticized the way the Chicago mayor and State Attorney Anita Alverez handled the incident.

“To this day, Hillary Clinton has yet to condemn Chicago’s anti-black mayor. Mayor Emmanuel has conspired with State’s Attorney Alvarez during his own re-election campaign to cover up the police murder of Laquan McDonald — a life that to Emmanuel, Alvarez, and Clinton did not matter,” Tess Raser, an organizer with Assata’s Daughters, the group coordinating today’s banner actions said in a statement.

“Any politician who supports Emanuel should consider themselves implicated in his misconduct. Anti-black politicians are not welcome in Chicago whether they are running for State’s Attorney or President of The United States.”

While the Clintons are close to Emanuel, Sanders has called on him to resign. This could help him break through with minority voters in Illinios, a weakness for him in most of the Democratic primaries.

Clinton led Sanders by less than six points in the RealClearPolitics average of Illinios polls.
