D.C. United have interest in Harewood

With yet another stinging, goalless defeat in their back pocket, D.C. United’s urgency to upgrade its attack couldn’t be greater.

I can confirm that among its targeted prospects for the summer transfer window is 30-year-old English forward Marlon Harewood, who is out of contract with Aston Villa and is coming off a loan spell this season with Newcastle United, which ran away with the League Championship title to earn promotion back to the Premier League next season. Harewood had five goals in 15 appearances.

D.C. has not made an offer yet but Harewood is intrigued with the idea of playing in the U.S. His salary demands would likely fall into the Designated Player territory. Now, would D.C. want to pay that? It remains to be seen.
