Why did Joy Behar just promote a white nationalist on The View?

If you watch The View — and I really hope you don’t — you know Joy Behar really dislikes President Trump. So much, in fact, that she promoted a white nationalist during Wednesday’s show, simply because he had come out against Trump.

“There’s one small thing, you were saying, ‘What’s some good news?’ Well, this was a tiny thing that I noticed,” Behar said. “You remember Richard Spencer? He’s basically the organizer of Unite the Right, the white nationalist group that was marching in Charlottesville and was all in for Trump. Not anymore.”

Behar then read Spencer’s tweet from Tuesday, in which he expressed regret for “voting for and promoting” Trump in 2016. “Wow. That’s interesting,” Behar continued, noting that Spencer’s flip-flop is likely due to Trump’s decision to order the killing of Iranian terrorist Gen. Qassem Soleimani.

I’m sure Behar finds Spencer’s hateful bigotry repulsive, as she should, so why promote him on her show? Because now he dislikes Trump, and so does she. So blinded by her hatred for the president, Behar willingly broadcast a white supremacist’s name on-air, directing thousands of viewers to his Twitter account.

Behar found Spencer’s rescission “interesting” because, for the past few years, she’s made up her mind that white nationalists must be Trump supporters. She has also suggested the inverse is true: that Trump supporters are white nationalists. And to have that connection broken was shocking and apparently newsworthy.

If Spencer still supported Trump, his name wouldn’t have even crossed Behar’s mind. And that’s why this exchange was revealing: It seems white supremacists deserve condemnation so long as they support Trump. And as soon as that’s no longer true, The View might just offer a shoutout.
