Illegal immigration surge pops Biden’s popularity, 67% say it’s a ‘crisis’

As the surge of illegal immigration turned into a full-fledged crisis over the weekend, President Biden’s approval rating dove into negative ratings as his aides scrambled to claim the border is “closed” while illegal immigrants are still streaming in.

In the latest Rasmussen Reports survey, Biden’s approval rating among likely voters stumbled from 52% positive to 49% positive, just one point from his lowest rating.

A separate survey from Rasmussen suggested a reason — voters blame Biden for the border crisis just two months into his job.

Two-thirds of voters, 67%, said the situation in the South is a “crisis,” a word the administration refuses to use, though it has now been adopted by the media. Majorities of virtually all groups polled, including Democrats, called it a crisis.

And 53% said that Biden “has caused” the crisis with his policies and rhetoric. Here there was partisan division, with 74% of Republicans in agreement and 60% of Democrats not.

It has also forced the public to consider the illegality of crossing the border without permission. On that, Rasmussen said voters overwhelmingly, 65%, agree with the statement, “At no time is it right to break the law and come into the United States illegally.”
