Right-wing commentator Ann Coulter suspects Jared Kushner was the senior Trump administration official who claimed in an anonymous New York Times opinion piece last week to be a member of the resistance undermining the president.
“Because he and Ivanka are going to have to go back to the Upper East Side and go to the Hamptons,” Coulter said Thursday during an interview with the Daily Beast. Kushner is a senior White House adviser, while his wife Ivanka is also an administration aide and President Trump’s eldest daughter.
“They’re probably worried that Trump will be removed within the next few years,” Coulter said of Kushner and Ivanka Trump. “They had just gone to the McCain funeral, and [the op-ed] was right after Labor Day, so they were probably feeling wistful for the Hamptons. And the only way they can get back in is if they can say, ‘Don’t worry, we’re the ones who stopped the wall.’”
In the op-ed, the mystery author describes how they and other staffers work “diligently” to frustrate parts of Trump’s agenda and “his worst inclinations” because they believe their first duty is to the country rather than the president.
The White House did not immediately respond to the Washington Examiner‘s request for comment regarding Coulter’s claims. Kushner last week ignored shouted questions from reporters concerning the piece.

Coulter’s support of the Trump White House has soured since the 2016 election over his inaction on campaign promises like building a wall-like structure along the southern border.
On Thursday, she offered advice to members of the so-called “resistance,” while also calling on news outlets to exercise restraint in their coverage of his presidency.
“Frankly, I think it’s very good advice for the resistance: Stop being insane,” Coulter said.
“There’s lots of stuff to go after this guy on,” she added. “Even if you hate Trump, the media is driving sane people to be anti-anti-Trump.”
