Marc Anthony joins the cast of TNT’s “HawthoRNe” as a regular this summer. He plays Detective Nick Renata, a part he guest-starred in last year. He is a gold-and-platinum-record-producing singer, songwriter and actor. Anthony, a multi-Grammy Award winner, has been married to singer Jennifer Lopez since 2004, and they have 3-year-old twins, Emme and Maximillian. Q: Now that your role as Detective Nick Renata on “HawthoRNe” is long-term, do you find that the character starts to stay with you after you leave the set?
A: The thing about Nick Renata and the character is that it’s more of a frame of mind. What I found with him is that it’s his process that makes him unique. I think it’s very much my process as well. You know what I mean? Any actor across the room in a scene says something, I’ll process it a certain way and I think that’s what makes me unique. So, fortunately and unfortunately, I have to bring him home.

Q: You play a kind of tough-guy detective. How would you describe yourself in real life?
A: I wouldn’t say I’m a tough guy, but I’m capable of being tough. The thing about Nick (and this year we are really pushing the envelope all the way around, storywise, and going for it), is when you see him as tough, you have to try and get your head around what’s the catalyst for that. He’s not tough for tough’s sake, and you will see that especially this season.
Q: Did you believe in your talent growing up?
A: You know, I did. I did, and I think that it is absolutely paramount for anybody who wants to survive in a business such as the entertainment industry. I think anyone who rises to the top of any profession, what is a must is absolutely seeing it before anybody else does. I honestly think nobody gets there by mistake.
Q: Has success changed you?
A: I was always conscious of that, and I just think the circumstances change, honestly. You are talking to someone who concentrated on being conscious of it. I always thought that money and power and fame just amplify who you really are. I mean, if you are a jerk, you are going to be the biggest jerk on the planet. If you’re a nice person, you’ll be that.
