North Korea dismisses Trump threat as ‘load of nonsense,’ warns ‘only absolute force’ can work

North Korea warned through its state media Wednesday that President Trump’s threats of “fire and fury” are a “load of nonsense” and said that “only absolute force” can work on the Trump administration.

A day after Trump issued his threat, North Korea’s military responded by saying that it won’t pursue dialogue with the U.S. to negotiate over its nuclear weapons program.

“Sound dialogue is not possible with such a guy bereft of reason and only absolute force can work on him,” North Korea’s military said of Trump.

On Tuesday, North Korea threatened to strike Guam, a U.S. island territory in the western Pacific Ocean.

North Korea said Wednesday it will complete its plan to attack “waters near Guam” by mid-August.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson tried to downplay the threat to Americans Wednesday. “I think Americans should sleep well at night, have no concerns about this particular rhetoric of the last few days,” Tillerson said as his plane stopped on the way back to the U.S. to refuel in Guam.

Hours later, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis issued a statement saying that North Korea risked “the end of its regime and the destruction of its people” if it did not “stand down” from its pursuit of nuclear weapons.
