Jimmy Carter recovering after fall at home required stitches

Former President Jimmy Carter is recovering after suffering a fall in his Georgia home that left him in need of stitches.

Carter, who recently turned 95, fell on Sunday but is doing “fine” after receiving stitches above his brow, according to a statement from the Carter Center. He is still slated to make an appearance at a Sunday night event in Tennessee related to his work with Habitat for Humanity.

“He said he feels fine and wanted everyone to know that he and Mrs. Carter are eager to be at Habitat for Humanity’s Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project in Nashville, Tennessee,” his spokeswoman Deanna Congileo said.

He is expected to assist in building 21 new homes in Tennessee after resuming his work with the organization following hip surgery in May that stemmed from another fall.

Carter, the oldest living former president, served one term in the White House from 1977 to 1981 after defeating President Gerald Ford in 1976. He went on to lose to Ronald Reagan in the 1980 presidential election.
