A new ad from Alabama Senate candidate Doug Jones uses prominent Republicans who criticized of Roy Moore in the wake of allegations of sexual misconduct to highlight why voters should back Jones, a Democrat.
Statements from Ivanka Trump, President Trump’s daughter and an assistant to the president, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., are featured in the 30-second ad, called “Voices.”
The campaign ad highlights Trump’s comments to the Associated Press about Moore, in which she said there’s a “special place in hell for people who prey on children.”
Sessions’ comments from congressional testimony last week, during which he said he has “no reason to doubt these young women,” is also spotlighted, as is Shelby’s vow not to support Moore in the upcoming special election.
“Conservative voices putting women and children over party, doing what’s right,” the ad states.
At least nine women have come forward saying Moore pursued sexual or romantic relations with them when they were teenagers and he was in his 30s. One woman said the conservative judge initiated sexual contact with her when she was 14, and another said Moore sexually assaulted her when she was 16.
A number of top Republicans, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, have called for Moore to exit the Senate race.
Moore has denied the allegations against him and has refused to withdraw.
