A missing 1-year-old boy was reunited Monday with his mother, whose roommate has been arrested and charged with abducting the child, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
The boy, Zian Armani Holeman, was last seen around 8 p.m. Sunday night with 26-year-old Vernice Simmons, who reportedly lives with Holeman’s mother on Buckman Road, not far from Fort Belvoir. The mother phoned police after Simmons did not return home with the boy, according to police spokesman Officer Richard Henry.
Officers obtained a warrant for abduction on Simmons on Monday. Alerts went up on television and radio all over the county and briefly interrupted a meeting of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, telling of the missing sweatshirt-and-overall-clad child.
Simmons was spotted walking with the boy on the 2400 block of Buckman Road and arrested without incident around 2:45 p.m., Henry said. She was also served an outstanding arrest warrant for failure to appear after being taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, according to a news release.
Holeman was not injured.
