Motorists heading eastbound on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge may get caught in congestion this afternoon as high winds will prohibit two-way traffic.
The Maryland Transportation Authority, which operates the bridge, issued a notice this morning that the westbound span will not be open for two-way traffic, which is usually done to relieve afternoon traffic heading to the Eastern Shore.
But with a coastal storm heading Maryland’s way, winds are whipping up on the Bay. MdTA has issued a wind warning, meaning that house trailers, box trailers, motorcycles and other high-profile vehicles should use caution when crossing the bridge.
MdTA officials said they will continue to monitor the weather, and if the winds die down, two-way traffic will resume.
