…Corner Carlos Rogers (hamstring) and safety LaRon Landry (Achilles) were both limited Friday. They’ll attempt to go full speed Saturday – the Redskins do a walk-through, but the trainers will put them through a series of tests to determine their availability.
For Landry, coach Mike Shanahan said, it’s all about the pain.
“It’s if he can handle the pain, he can play,” Shanahan said. “He’s a pretty tough guy so we’ll see.”
…Running back Ryan Torain (hamstring) was full-go and will play Sunday. Who starts is another matter. Me? I’d start James Davis and let Torain be the backup. I’d like to see a little more of Davis. Neither one is a good blocker in protection, but I want to see more of Davis running the ball. Besides, if the weather is bad Sunday, not sure I’d want to the top guy to be one who has missed four games with a hamstring injury.
…Shanahan said he will not play young guys just for the sake of getting them time down the stretch. So all you John Beck fans, looks like you might have to wait until August to see your man.
…I don’t mind this strategy at all. Don’t forget, guys like Donovan McNabb are a part of the future here, too. Why tick him off (again) and the locker room by having him sit for a game so someone like Beck could play?
…One player I’d like to see more of is receiver Terrence Austin. But at who’s expense? Not taking Santana Moss out of the lineup just to get Austin more time. Still, I’d like to see him on some underneath routes to capitalize on his footwork. Has very, very good feet.
…Is this the week we see more of Jeremy Jarmon? Could be, with Albert Haynesworth suspended (as you may have heard). Jarmon is an excellent athlete, but he also needed to get stronger (something even he admitted after he was drafted). Another offseason in the weight room would help him immensely. He seems to have a good idea of where to go and how to play with leverage. Have talked to some who have watched him play who wonder if he’s better in a 4-3, but that is to be determined.
…Davis said he doesn’t want to get on tape for other teams; he wants to prove he can play here. “I want to be here,” he said. “I really like this system because it fits my style of running. I have to show the coaches what I’ve got and what I can do to help this team in the future.”
