Across the Baltimore area, shoppers braved lack of sleep, the cold, and occasionally each other to get big deals on electronics and toys.
“It’s kind of like, why do people go out when they see police or firemen,” said Baltimore resident Mario Gonzalez, who said he had been in line at the Best Buy in White Marsh since 2 a.m. “It’s kind of exciting.”
Best Buy store management said the first members of a line more than 1,000 people long had arrived at 11:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
At Target Greatland in Bel Air, Gail Sullivan of Red Lion, Pa. waited in line with her husband Dan and mother, Linda Morrison of Edgewood, just before the store’s 6 a.m. opening. The three said they weren’t looking for any item in particular.
“It’s a tradition,” said Dan Sullivan. ” We wait out in line, get in and fight with everyone else. It’s a tradition.”
