These days, a three-day holiday weekend means major Metro shutdowns and delays for extensive track work.
The transit agency is planning to close three stations, shutting off train service on the northern end of the Green Line, this weekend. The Yellow Line will be affected by the work and the Red Line will be delayed as crews shut down one track in one area.
The work means that no trains will be running between Greenbelt and Fort Totten starting at 10 p.m. Friday and running through Monday, the Memorial Day holiday. Instead free bus shuttles will ferry riders between the five affected stations — Greenbelt, College Park, Prince George’s Plaza, West Hyattsville and Fort Totten.
Yellow Line trains will run only between Huntington and Mount Vernon Square because of the work.
Meanwhile, on the Red Line, trains will share a single track between Forest Glen and Takoma.
The agency does not plan any scheduled track work on the Orange and Blue lines, though.
