Sen. Ben Ray Lujan said he would be back in Washington, D.C., on the Senate floor “in just a few short weeks” after he suffered a stroke last month.
The Democratic senator from New Mexico gave an update of his recovery from the University of New Mexico Hospital, noting he would return to Congress in time to participate in hearings and vote on President Joe Biden’s Supreme Court nominee.
“I am doing well, I am strong, I am back on the road to recovery,” Lujan said. “Rest assured, New Mexicans can know they will have a voice and a vote during [the Supreme Court nominee] process. That has never changed.”

Lujan was hospitalized on Jan. 27 and underwent neurosurgery to reduce swelling in his brain.
Dr. Diana Green-Chandos, a neurologist caring for Lujan, said a tear in the senator’s vertebral artery caused the stroke. His condition has improved enough to be discharged from the hospital and continue his recovery at an in-patient rehabilitation facility, she added.

“I am going to make a full recovery,” Lujan said. “I am going to walk out of here, and I am going to beat this. And I am going to be stronger once I come out.”
